Italy
- Learning Objectives
-
Understand that patients who have a hip fracture are at substantial risk of major complications (ie, cardiovascular, infectious, bleeding, and neurocognitive) and mortality.
Understand that hip fractures result in pain, bleeding, and immobility, and activate inflammatory, hypercoagulable, catabolic, and stress states that can precipitate medical complications.
Discuss the findings of the HIP attack mRCT: accelerated surgery compared with standard care resulted in a lower risk of delirium, urinary tract infection, moderate-to-severe pain, faster mobilization, and a shorter time to hospital discharge.
